A new year brings us nail polish junkies new collections, more specifically the Mariah Carey collection by OPI with their new liquid sand polishes. "Liquid what?!" you ask? I had that exact reaction so I only got one of them - Stay The Night - to try out, figuring that if I didn't like the texture, at least it would look good with top coat.
Liquid Sand polishes dry to a gritty finish and do not need a top coat. I wore a coat of my Essie First Base basecoat, followed by 3 coats of Stay The Night, a black base with red glitter. By the time I painted a coat on my last nail, the first was dry and so I didn't have to wait at all between coats. I'm just going to come out and say it...the texture is just not for me. I felt like my nails had turned into nail files and the dull, crusty texture did not look flattering on me. I don't get how this is different from wearing regular glitters, which usually dry to gritty finishes. The good news is that I needed just 1 coat of Poshe top coat for a smooth and shiny surface. Here are pictures with and without top coat.
I'm going to have to admit that I do like this polish a lot with top coat so it is still a keeper for me. If you are not as fussy as me about texture, you might want to give the liquid sand thing a shot.
