Polka Dotted Gift Wrap Paper with Zoya Wednesday

'Tis the weekend to wrap presents! Today's Christmas mani is a cute polka dotted pattern, reminding me of gift wrap at this time of the year. I can never say no to a good blue and so was the case with Zoya Wednesday, a dusty, darker version of Tiffany blue. It reminds me of Essie Turquoise & Caicos but without the horrible formula and stressful application. It did give me a bit of lobster hands but it's not as severe as it seems to be in the pictures.

Here is the polka dotted gift wrapping for my Secret Santa at work:

Though it's not the most Christmassy mani, I'm happy I got a lot of compliments on it, including one from an 80 year old man who couldn't understand how my nails had a pattern. See you next time with some more nail art!

Snowflakes with Zoya Song

Less than a week left till Christmas! I am trying to cram in as many Xmas themed nails as I can before then. Today's mani is different from the usual greens and reds but still very wintry. I found Zoya's at Winners last week and picked up Zoya Song, a long time lemming. Song is a dark blue creme with understated sparkly blue shimmer. Believe it or not, I used just one coat for my swatches and removing it didn't leave my fingers looking like blue zombie hands. I topped it with a coat of Seche Vite, drew some snowflakes with a Sally Hansen nail art pen in White, and added another coat of Seche Vite. Thankfully, the Seche Vite didn't shrink the Zoya this time!

Despite the weather prediction, I hope we have a white Christmas instead of this wet mushy weather. Until then, I'll have to make do with the snowflakes on my nails. See you next time!

Christmas Lights with Essie Beyond Cozy

Last weekend, my family and I (puppy included) drove around the neighbourhood with peppermint hot chocolate to see all the Christmas lights. So, naturally, today I have a string of Christmas Lights on my nails The base is Beyond Cozy from Essie's Winter 2013 collection, a fine gold glitter with slightly larger pieces of silver glitter. For the bulbs, I used Zoya Andi, Essie Butler Please, and OPI Jade Is The New Black

Here is a swatch of Beyond Cozy by itself. I topped the glitter off with two coats of Seche Vite to make the surface completely smooth and non-gritty. Such a gorgeous glitter!

I hope you're enjoying the Christmas nails this month. As always, thanks for reading!

Christmas Mani: Poinsettias!

Hello folks! Hope everyone's enjoying their weekends and getting some Christmas shopping done! Continuing with the Christmas nails theme for December, today I have a manicure that I did using a poinsettias stamp from LeaLac's Plate B. For the base I used Wet'n'Wild French White, stamped over with Rimmel Red Rock and finished with Sally Hansen Xtremewear Emerald City. I took a few pictures with the tree to make it more festive :)

I had a lot of fun doing this mani! In hindsight, I should have used a darker red so it wouldn't look so pink over white. I'll be posting a lot more nail art this month as opposed to just posting swatches. Check back soon and thanks for reading!!

Lush Lacquer Holiday Collection 2012: Frosty

December's here already?! You know what that means...Christmas nail polishes! This year, I'm more excited about indie holiday collections than main stream brands, probably because indies use a lot more glitter ;) Today I have for you Frosty from Lush Lacquer's Holiday 2012 Collection. Lush Lacquer is an indie brand created by a mother-daughter duo, and available in their Etsy shop as well as on Llarowe.

Lush Lacquer - Frosty

Frosty is a white creme base with red and green hex, square and bar glitter. There is so much glitter in this polish that I didn't have to worry about placing any pieces. I used one thick coat on some nails and 2 coats on others to show you that either technique results in full coverage. I didn't experience any dragging/balding but I did have to wait a little longer for the thick coats to dry. Overall, I'm very happy I finally gave this brand a shot and I'm going to keep my eye on Llarowe for the next restock :)

NYX Girls swatches: Sunshine Pink and Purple Ink

Happy Black Friday! Hope your scored some awesome nail polish deals today! I have for you two NYX Girls polishes: Sunshine Pink and Purple Ink. One of these polishes simply blew me away with its formula and its not-so-hidden shimmer. Read on to see swatches...

Purple Ink is a purple polish with purple shimmer. This polish absolutely blew my mind because of the one-coater formula and the shimmer that floats just beneath the surface. I think this might be my new favourite purple..and I have a lot of shimmery purples! I used 2 coats for the swatches topped with a coat of Seche Vite.

Sunshine Pink is a translucent pink polish with gold shimmer. The problem I had with this polish was that it was TOO sheer. For swatches, I used 4 coats to build up the pink. The only reason I picked this polish from the bin of NYX polishes is because of the gold shimmer.

This was my first experience with NYX polishes and I think I like them enough to go back for more. What are your favourites from this line?

Deborah Lippmann Ray of Light

Happy Turkey Day to all my American friends! Today I have for you swatches of Deborah Lippmann's Ray Of Light. It is a navy blue with duochrome flakies. The best part about that polish is that removal left absolutely no blue staining. Flakies tend to be overpowering when layered over a polish, but having it as part of the formula takes that effect down just a notch and lets the base colour shine through. Here we go!

Oh, how I love my Deborah Lippmann's! She's yet to make a polish I didn't like. What do you guys think? Does this make it onto your list of must-have DLs?

Speaking of Thanksgiving...thanks for taking time out of your day to read my posts! It really makes my day :)

More Halo Hues: Color Club Cherubic

Earlier this month, I did a post on the new Color Club Halo Hues holographic polishes. Today, I have another polish from this collection: Cherubic. I won't talk too much about the formula because I've already discussed it in my first post; instead, I have lots of pictures in return...along with some stamping! The base colour of Cherubic is a light brownish taupe. I stamped over it with one of the patterns from Llarowe's in-house stamping plates: LeaLaC Stamping Plate XL - B.

This is the first time I've stamped on such a pure holo. I had a lot of fun doing it! What do you think of this look?  Have you tried the Halo Hues yet?

Zoya Ornate Collection for Holiday 2012

Hi folks! Today I have for you three beauties from the Zoya Ornate Holiday 2012 collection. I am a huge fan of scattered holo, so naturally I couldn't pass up this collection. What amazes me about this collection is that the holo polishes are suspended in a tinted, not opaque, base!! Zoya is well-known for the sheers they released earlier this year and they seemed to have kicked it up a notch just in time for the holidays. To avoid repetition, I'm going to say outright that the formula of all three polishes was spectacular, drying to a glossy finish and coming off without a hassle. Bear in mind that being a red, Blaze can leave stubborn stains on your cuticles if you get any polish on them.

Zoya Ornate Holiday 2012 Collection

Aurora is a purple tinted base with chunky holo glitter. Because of the size of the glitter particles, they do come off as just silver chunks indoors, but they sparkle and shine in direct sunlight. I used 1 coat of Aurora over Zoya Tru. Please excuse me for putting up so many pictures but I NEED you guys to see the awesomeness.

Blaze is a red tinted base with holo glitter. I can't believe I almost didn't get this! This is one polish that looks ordinary in the bottle but is va-va-voom on the nails. The sheer base gives this polish a lot of depth and the holo particles shine mostly pink and purple. Although Blaze is not even remotely close to Hare's Dog Day Dream, it has filled my Hare lemming because they both have similar color palettes. I used 1 coat over China Glaze Merry Berry.

Storm is a black tinted base with chunky holo glitter. I love this polish but I wish the glitter wasn't completely flat and non-holo in all lighting other than blazing sunlight. The holo is not as strong as it is in the other two. I suppose I must continue on my quest for a black fine glitter polish! I used 2 coats over a translucent coat of Wet'n'Wild Black Creme.

Butter London Trout Pout

Happy Monday! Today I have another Butter London polish for you guys. After trying Royal Navy last week, I couldn't stop myself from trying more Butter London. The formula is far superior to so many brands and that's what appeals to me most in a polish. Let's get into it then!

Trout Pout is a pinkish-coral creme. This is one of the more well-known Butter London's and was the first one to ever go on my wish list. The formula is slightly thicker than I like but I tried to use extremely thin layers and had full coverage at 3 coats. I presume you could get away with 2 thick coats but it could take a while to dry. Here are the swatches:

I admit I have turned into a Butter London fan and you'll probably see more swatches on here. What is your favourite Butter London? I've been eyeing Black Knight but I might try to franken that with black and SH Rockstar Pink to get the same effect.

Color Club Halo Hues for Fall 2012

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to take on the week ahead. Also, don't forget to set your watches back an hour, if you haven't already! Today's post is on a collection I have been most excited about this Fall, after the OPI Skyfall collection. It is the 6 new holographic polishes by Color Club as part of the Halo Hues collection. The great thing about this collection is that the holo doesn't go flat in the shade, like most holos I have. Even when not in direct sunlight, it glistens and gleams like a rainbow!

I picked two out of this collection - Angel Kiss (mint green) and Cloud Nine (mauve). I'll probably be going back for Cherubic (light brown). The formula of both the polishes was exceptionally great. They were both two coaters and dried fast to a shiny finish. One thing to note is that I feel like adding Seche Vite on top brought down the holo a notch, but that could easily be my over-analyzing self being too critical. I've added a picture of Cloud Nine in indirect sunlight so you can see the halo magic that I am talking about!

What are your views on this collection? I've heard they remind people of the Layla holos but I don't have any Layla's so I can't comment on that. I'm so incredibly impressed with this collection - next up, they need to make a vampy holo collection like they have in the past!
